On 9 and 10 October 1997, the 3rd Forum on the information society, jointly organized by the European Commission and the 13 Central and Eastern European Countries in coordination with the European Parliament, took place at the European Parliament in Brussels. It was attended by more than 200 representatives, including Ministers, leading industrialists and researchers from the EU and the Central and Eastern European Countries. This Forum was a continuation of the previous Forums held in June 1995 in Brussels and September 1996 in Prague respectively. The series of events aimed to help the Central and Eastern European Countries fully benefit from the new industrial revolution brought about by developments in information and communication technologies. They were important events in the EU/Central and Eastern European Countries dialogue, as the Central and Eastern European Countries prepare for the competitive environment that successful candidates are expected to encounter after accession.
