Adoption of Measures for Maintaining Financial Stability by ECOFIN

10/5/2010

Given Greece’s credit inability since the spring of 2010 and with the fear of the crisis spreading to other more vulnerable economies, the Economic and Financial Affairs Council (ECOFIN) proceeded with an emergency meeting (May 9-10).

In its conclusions, the Council decided to create a European Financial Stabilization Mechanism of up to 500 billion euros.
