Approval for the First European Elections

The European Parliament approves a report on organizing direct European elections. The document, which becomes known as the Patijn report, named after Dutch Member of the European Parliament Schelto Patijn who drafted it, forms the basis for the subsequent agreement between member states to hold the first European elections in 1979.
