Commissioner Dimitris Avramopoulos’s Visit to Spain, EU Support for the Country Due to Migration

Dimitris Avramopoulos, Commissioner for Migration, Home Affairs and Citizenship, traveled to Madrid, Spain to meet with Carmen Calvo Poyato, Deputy Prime Minister of Spain and Minister of the Presidency, Parliamentary Relations and Equality, Josep Borrell Fontelles, Spanish Minister of Foreign Affairs, European Union and Cooperation, Fernando Grande-Marlaska Gómez, Spanish Minister of the Interior, and Magdalena Valerio, Spanish Minister of Labor, Migration and Social Security. During the meeting, Dimitris Avramopoulos announced additional emergency aid of 3 million euros to support Spain in dealing with the recent migratory pressure. The aid will mainly support expenses associated with the deployment of additional Guardia Civil personnel at Spain’s southern borders.
