Community Action Program for the Environment

22/11/1973

The leaders of the European Community establish the first Environmental Action Program, which is based on the idea that prevention is better than cure, as well as on the principle that a price should be paid for pollution. In the 1970s, the fight against pollution intensifies with the emergence of the environmental movement and the first political parties based on the principles of ecology, such as environmentalism, social justice, and non-violence. Since then, climate change and the environment have been very high on the EU’s political agenda.
