Crisis Platform Meeting on the Situation in Libya

On August 23, 2011, Catherine Ashton, High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy and Vice-President of the European Commission, chaired a meeting of the crisis platform on Libya in Brussels to analyze the latest on-the-ground developments and coordinate the European response to the crisis. The European Union stated that it is ready to offer prompt assistance to a new Libyan government and called on Libyan Leader Colonel Gaddafi to resign immediately. European funds could be available for financial assistance, maintaining security, humanitarian aid, support for conducting elections, and institution building.
