Declaration on the Outermost Regions of the Community

29/7/1992

In its Declaration on the Outermost Regions of the Community, the Conference acknowledges that these regions, specifically the French overseas departments, the Azores, Madeira, and the Canary Islands, exhibit structural delays resulting in the hindrance of their socio-economic development. For this reason, and as there is an objective need, they are favorable to the adoption of additional measures, beyond the provisions of the Treaty establishing the European Community and the derived legislation intended for the Outermost Regions. These measures should aim at completing the internal market while also recognizing the specific needs of these regions.
