Direct and Universal Election of Members of the European Parliament

The Council of the European Communities issues a Decision with reforms regarding the direct and universal election of members of the European Parliament. This amended Act is incorporated into the Decision of the Council of 20 September 1976. Thus, the conclusions of the European Council in Edinburgh held in December 1992 come into effect, as the impending enlargement and unification of Germany created new conditions regarding the distribution of seats in the European Parliament.
