Directive towards Establishing European Cooperation in the Field of Natural Gas and Electricity

19/7/1955

The Conventional Energy Committee, following a Directive adopted by the Coordinating Committee of the Spaak Committee, undertakes the obligation to study the possibilities of establishing European cooperation in the energy sector, specifically in natural gas and electricity. This study should not be independent of the corresponding initiative of the Organization for European Economic Cooperation (now the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development-OECD) and the activities of the ECSC. This Directive emerged after the Messina conference (June 1-3) and is the first concerning the Conventional Energy Committee.
