EU Aid to Combat Drug Production and Trafficking in Bolivia

19/8/2013

Andris Piebalgs, Commissioner for Development, visited Bolivia from August 19 to 22, 2013. He announced new European financial aid to help the Bolivian Government combat drug production and trafficking. The new EU plan aimed to benefit approximately 80,000 farming families in Bolivia. It will contribute to creating new economic opportunities in cocaine-producing areas and strengthening alternative forms of agriculture. The new program will build on the EU’s previous work on drug control, which had already contributed to reducing the area of drug cultivation.
