EU Humanitarian Aid for Iraq and Ukraine

Kristalina Georgieva, Commissioner for International Cooperation, Humanitarian Aid and Crisis Response, announces that the European Commission is increasing its humanitarian aid to Iraq by an additional 5 million euros, responding to growing needs, bringing the total funding for Iraq to 17 million euros in 2014. The new funding will provide vital assistance to hundreds of thousands of Iraqi citizens trapped by the fighting.
Regarding Ukraine, on the same day the Commissioner stated: “… As for the humanitarian aspect, we are finalizing an emergency decision of 2.5 million euros to establish humanitarian aid for the affected populations in Eastern Ukraine and also to support the Ukrainian authorities in upgrading their humanitarian response capacity.”
