EU-UK Trade and Cooperation Agreement

On 24 December 2020, Ursula von der Leyen, President of the European Commission, and Michel Barnier, Head of the Task Force for Relations with the United Kingdom, held a press conference on the results of the EU-UK negotiations and particularly on the draft EU-UK Trade and Cooperation Agreement.
The EU-UK Trade and Cooperation Agreement consists of three main pillars: a Free Trade Agreement, a new partnership for citizens’ security, and a horizontal agreement on Governance. The Agreement came into effect on 1 January 2021, following the signing of the Agreement by the Council and the approval of the European Parliament.
