On the anniversary of the September 11 terrorist attack, Gilles de Kerchove, European Counter-Terrorism Coordinator, and Mike Smith, Executive Director of the UN Counter-Terrorism Committee, held a meeting to examine how cooperation between the two institutions in the fight against terrorism can be strengthened. Gilles de Kerchove emphasized the importance of greater attention and support for victims of terrorism. He also stated that security is a prerequisite for development, which is why he believes that a portion of European development funds should be used to combat terrorism in certain parts of the world.
