European Council in Brussels, 17-18/06/2004

The Heads of State and Government of EU countries met to discuss the draft Constitution, specifically ten remaining points presented by the Irish Presidency of the Council. Another important issue was the appointment of the new President of the European Commission, who will replace Romano Prodi, but no decision was made. On the other hand, the adoption of the European Constitutional plan can be considered a historic event and a significant advancement in European integration. Other topics on the agenda of this European Council were: justice, internal affairs, and external relations.
