Farmers’ Protests against Agenda 2000

In light of the financial prospects outlined in Agenda 2000 and the changes in the new Common Agricultural Policy, German farmers are demonstrating in Berlin on the sidelines of the extraordinary European Council, reacting to these new measures.

The reform essentially involved realigning internal prices with global prices, the establishment of environmental cross-compliance by member states as a condition for granting aid, the strengthening of socio-structural and structural measures, and fiscal stabilization through a strict budgetary framework for the period 2000-2006.
