On November 12, 2020, Věra Jourová, Vice-President of the European Commission for Values and Transparency, and Helena Dalli, European Commissioner for Equality, held a press conference on the first EU Strategy for equality of lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans, queer and intersex (LGBTIQ) and non-binary individuals.
Although progress has been made in the EU in recent years regarding LGBTIQ equality, discrimination against LGBTIQ individuals continues, with 43% feeling discriminated against. The COVID-19 crisis has only exacerbated the situation. Today’s Strategy addresses the inequalities and challenges affecting LGBTIQ people, setting out a series of targeted actions, including legal and funding measures, for the next 5 years.
