First Meeting of the ECSC Consultative Committee

26/1/1953

The ECSC Consultative Committee meets for the first time in Luxembourg, at the Hôtel de Ville. Shortly before the establishment of the common market for coal and steel, Jean Monnet, as President of the High Authority (period 1952-1955), asks in his speech for the Consultative Committee to provide an opinion on the new pricing system under which the Community will operate, so that in a second stage the High Authority can take the necessary measures to eliminate barriers (price discrimination, protective regimes) in its six member states, for the effective circulation of products.
