First Session of the ECSC-United Kingdom Association Council

The inaugural session of the European Coal and Steel Community (ECSC) and United Kingdom Association Council takes place, with the President of the High Authority, René Mayer, delivering the opening speech. Three permanent committees were subsequently formed. One was the coal committee, the second was the steel committee, and the third dealt with trade relations. The Association Treaty was signed on 21 December 1954 and came into force on 23 September 1955.
