Forest Fires in Greece

The Plenary Session of the European Parliament in Strasbourg opened with a discussion about the devastating forest fires in Greece and how to improve the response to such disasters. Members of the European Parliament want to create a European civil intervention force. The European Commission is considering new ways to strengthen EU emergency aid to member states in crisis, prompted by the fires raging in Greece. There is a need for better coordination of financial assistance.
