Free Cross-Border Transactions

1/7/1968

Belgium, France, Germany, Italy, Luxembourg and the Netherlands abolish the imposition of taxes on imports of their products, on a mutual basis, allowing for the first time free cross-border transactions. They also apply the same tariffs on products imported from other countries. Thus, the largest trading bloc in the world is born. Trade between the six member states, as well as between them and the rest of the world, increases rapidly.
