Greece’s Accession to the European Communities is Approved

The Council approves Greece’s accession to the European Coal and Steel Community, the European Economic Community, and the European Atomic Energy Community. A few days later, on May 28, 1979, the treaty of Greece’s accession was signed at the Zappeion Megaron. The country officially joined the European Communities on January 1, 1981, thus becoming the tenth member of the Common Market.
