Informal Ministerial Meeting on Transport

22/9/2023

At the informal Ministerial Meeting on Transport, held on September 22, EU Ministers signed the Barcelona Declaration, a commitment to accessible, affordable, and fair mobility to promote social and territorial cohesion. The document, titled “Mobility for People: Promoting Social and Territorial Cohesion”, aims to consolidate the path already initiated by the European Commission with the European Green Deal and the Sustainable and Smart Mobility Strategy to achieve effective connectivity throughout the EU, both in urban areas and in sparsely populated or geographically challenging regions.
Rural and cross-border mobility is a key point in a Declaration that advocates as a priority the promotion of an integrated and accessible network.
The text also addresses transport safety, specifically road safety, with the addition of new measures to guarantee it. It also discusses the role of women in the sector and emphasizes the importance of integrating gender perspective and equality in the design of transport and mobility policies.
