Iraq: EU Allocates Additional 4 Million Euros in Humanitarian Funding for Vulnerable People Facing Food Insecurity

21/12/2022

Due to political instability, climate change, and rising food prices caused by drought and exacerbated by Russia’s unprovoked attack on Ukraine, many vulnerable Iraqis are unable to meet their basic needs. The funding announced today will help the most vulnerable people in Iraq, especially internally displaced persons and those living in informal conditions outside camps, to meet their basic needs.
The funding will help support up to 4,000 displaced vulnerable families by providing them with monthly cash assistance until they obtain identity documents and civil registration documents. Additionally, the cash assistance will benefit up to 1,000 families that include chronically ill members and who can no longer meet their basic needs. Since 2014, the EU has allocated 530.5 million euros in humanitarian aid for people in Iraq.
