Leaders’ Meeting on the Western Balkans Migration Route in Brussels

The President of the European Commission Jean-Claude Juncker organized a meeting on the Western Balkans Migration Route with the Heads of State and Government of Albania, Austria, Bulgaria, Croatia, the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Romania, Serbia, and Slovenia. The leaders agreed to improve cooperation and enhance consultations between countries along the route and made decisions on practical and realistic operational measures that can be implemented from tomorrow to address the refugee crisis in the region.
Specifically, the leaders agreed to implement from 26/10/2015 a 17-point action plan with the following operational measures: Permanent exchange of information, limiting secondary movements, supporting refugees and providing accommodation and resting areas, joint management of migration flows, border management, combating smuggling and trafficking, information on the rights and obligations of refugees and migrants, and monitoring the implementation of these commitments on a weekly basis – coordination between the Commission and national contact points.
