An EU Humanitarian Air Bridge flight landed in Beirut, Lebanon, delivering over 17 tons of humanitarian supplies, medicines, and medical equipment. These urgently needed materials will help ensure access to healthcare for the most vulnerable following the explosion at the port of Beirut and the coronavirus pandemic. This humanitarian support complements the EU’s emergency response after the devastating explosions in the capital Beirut on August 4, which further strained the Lebanese healthcare system, already burdened by the coronavirus pandemic. Immediately after the explosions, 19 countries offered specialized search and rescue teams, chemical assessment and medical teams, as well as medical equipment and other assistance through the EU Civil Protection Mechanism.
