MEPs Approve Short-Term Relief Measures Due to Covid-19

Reacting to the alarming spread of a coronavirus first recorded in Wuhan, China, the World Health Organization declares a pandemic situation. The Covid-19 virus, as it becomes known, is airborne, making it extremely contagious. Its symptoms are similar to those of the flu.
The number of infections and deaths, especially among the elderly, is rapidly increasing, leading to containment measures and the introduction of travel restrictions by countries around the world. Economic activity drops sharply and working from home becomes the norm for many.
The European Parliament switches to remote work but continues to organize plenary sessions and committee meetings. MEPs approve measures providing short-term relief to affected sectors and workers and repeatedly call for an ambitious EU support package that will pave the way for a sustainable recovery.
