Dimitris Avramopoulos, Commissioner for Migration, Home Affairs and Citizenship, and Violeta Bulc, Commissioner for Transport, participated in a meeting of Ministers of Home Affairs and Transport from 9 European countries (France, Germany, United Kingdom, Belgium, Netherlands, Luxembourg, Switzerland, Italy and Spain) on cross-border cooperation against terrorism and railway security, in the presence of Gilles de Kerchove, EU Counter-Terrorism Coordinator.
This meeting was convened following the thwarted attack on the Thalys train from Amsterdam to Paris a few days earlier, on August 21, and its purpose was to exchange experiences and identify possible additional security measures at national and European level.
