Natura 2000

21/5/1992

The EU establishes the “Natura 2000” network, which provides refuge for Europe’s most threatened wild species and habitats. This network, covering over 18% of the EU’s land area and nearly 6% of its marine territory, is the largest coordinated network of protected areas in the world. Since 2017, May 21st has been celebrated as European “Natura 2000” day.
