On the Road to the Messina Conference

15/4/1955

The outgoing President of the High Authority of the European Coal and Steel Community (ECSC), Jean Monnet, and the Director of the General Economic Directorate of the High Authority, Pierre Uri, jointly draft an informal communiqué (for the attention of Paul-Henri Spaak) for the upcoming Messina Conference, which would take place in the presence of the Foreign Ministers of the Six of the ECSC. The Messina Conference, in June 1955, aimed to revive the vision of a single market after the failure of the European Defence Community.
