Opinion of the European Court on the Community’s Accession to the “Convention for the Protection of Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms”

The Court issues an Opinion on the Community’s accession to the “Convention for the Protection of Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms”. This Opinion was issued following a request for advice from the Council regarding the compatibility with the EC Treaty for accession to an international agreement, and states that the Court in this case can give an opinion on accession but cannot do the same regarding the compatibility of accession with the provisions of the Treaty, due to insufficient information on the content of the agreement.
