Parliament Approves the post-Brexit Agreement

The European Parliament approves the agreement setting the rules for the future EU-UK relationship after the UK’s departure from the EU.
The trade and cooperation agreement was concluded in December 2020 and has been applied provisionally since January 1, 2021. Parliamentary approval is necessary for the agreement to come into force.
In an accompanying resolution, MEPs express their regret over the UK’s departure, calling it a “historic mistake”, but welcome the agreement as it minimizes the risk of trade disruption and helps maintain peace on the island of Ireland.
