Parliament Elects the Von Der Leyen Commission

27/11/2019

MEPs elect the European Commission led by Ursula von der Leyen. The plenary vote concludes the lengthy process of thorough scrutiny by the EP of the proposed team of commissioners, ensuring that the EU’s executive body has the democratic legitimacy to act in the interest of all Europeans.
The group of Commissioners includes more women than ever before, and von der Leyen becomes the first woman to hold the position of Commission President. Priorities include: transitioning to a climate-neutral economy by 2050, digitalization, security, and engaging European citizens in the discussion about the future of the EU.
