Parliament’s Opinion with Concerns about the Process of Withdrawal from the EU

3/3/1983

The European Parliament’s Committee on Political Affairs, in an advisory opinion regarding the process of revising the Treaties, raises its concerns about the withdrawal of a member state from the Community. It considers that such an act creates a precedent that may hinder further European integration of the member states. Although it is not opposed to granting Greenland the status of an “overseas country and territory”, it urges the Council to thoroughly examine the consequences that may arise from such a withdrawal.
