On July 16, 2021, Janusz Wojciechowski, European Commissioner for Agriculture, and Virginijus Sinkevičius, European Commissioner for Environment, Oceans and Fisheries, held a joint press conference on the EU Forest Strategy.
The New EU Forest Strategy for 2030, adopted by the European Commission on July 16, 2021, is a flagship initiative of the European Green Deal that builds on the EU Biodiversity Strategy for 2030. The strategy contributes to the package of measures proposed to achieve a reduction of greenhouse gas emissions by at least 55% by 2030 and climate neutrality in the EU by 2050. It also helps the EU fulfill its commitment to enhance carbon dioxide removal from natural sinks in accordance with the Climate Law.
