Re-election of Mario Scelba as President of the European Parliament

A Plenary Session of the European Parliament is taking place in Strasbourg, with the aim of electing a new President and eight Vice-Presidents. The oldest member of the Parliament, Italian Roberto Cantalupo, is presiding over the Plenary Session. Before the election process, he delivered a speech calling for the strengthening of the European Parliament as an institution and for it to have the ability to further contribute to the economic and political integration of the Community. From these elections, Mario Scelba was elected President for a second consecutive term.
