Referendum in Czech Republic on Country’s EU Accession

On June 13 and 14, 2003, a referendum was held on the accession of the Czech Republic to the EU. On the second day of voting, polling stations remained open until 14:00. Afterwards, the ballot boxes were sealed and locked before being transferred for counting. The official results reported that the overall turnout was estimated at 55% of the population and that 77.33% voted “Yes”.
