Referendum on the European Constitution in France

On May 29, 2005, French authorities organized a referendum on the draft European Constitution. The majority of voters (54.67%) voted against the establishment of a European Constitution. The turnout reached 69.37%. France was the first EU member state to reject the draft European constitution.
