Sakharov Prize to Malala Yousafzai

The Sakharov Prize for Freedom of Thought is awarded by the European Parliament to sixteen-year-old Pakistani student Malala Yousafzai for her struggle for the right of girls to education. Malala was shot by a Taliban gunman on October 9, 2012, while returning from her school, due to her campaign for the education of women and girls.
