Signing of the Berlin Declaration

The “Berlin Declaration” is signed, initiating a period of renegotiation for a new Treaty, with a planned start date in 2009. This “Declaration” was signed by the President of the European Commission José Manuel Barroso, the President of the European Parliament Hans-Gert Pöttering, and the German Chancellor Angela Merkel, who also held the EU Presidency.
