Signing of the Cotonou Agreement

On June 23, 2000, in Cotonou, Benin, the European Community and its member states signed a new twenty-year partnership agreement with 77 ACP (Africa, Caribbean and Pacific) countries. The aim of the Cotonou Agreement is to reduce poverty and is based on political dialogue, development aid and enhanced economic and trade cooperation.
