Signing of the Treaty of Paris

18/4/1951

Treaty of Paris – Establishment of the European Coal and Steel Community (ECSC).
Robert Schuman’s vision begins to take shape when six countries —Belgium, France, Germany, Italy, Luxembourg, and the Netherlands— sign a treaty to create a European body that will centrally manage coal and steel production. These countries will decide together how coal and steel will be used in Europe, and no country will be able to manufacture weapons without the others knowing.
