Speech by José Manuel Barroso ahead of the European Council

8/6/2005

The President of the European Commission, José Manuel Barroso, in his speech to the European Parliament, raises two issues that should be high on the agenda for discussions at the European Council to be held on 16 and 17 June. The first concerns the unity that the EU must show after the referendums in the Netherlands and France, which resulted in the failure to ratify the Constitutional Treaty. The second concerns the agreement on the EU’s financial-budgetary framework for the coming years.
