The 2023 Atlas of Migration Confirms EU’s Continued Strong Support for Ukrainians Trying to Escape the War

18/12/2023

On the occasion of World Migrants Day, the Commission’s Joint Research Centre (JRC) published a new edition of the Atlas of Migration, an online tool that provides the most recent harmonized and validated migration data for the 27 EU member states and for 171 countries and territories worldwide.
The 2023 edition includes a special thematic section on EU solidarity trends towards those displaced from Ukraine. It shows that the determination and resilience of Europeans in supporting Ukraine and the displaced remain strong at the EU level. This coincides with the results of the August 2023 Eurobarometer survey, according to which 79% of citizens are in favor of welcoming people trying to escape the war into the EU.
With the wide range of information it contains on key migration issues, including the evolution of migration movements over time, the Atlas is a valuable reference tool for EU decision-makers, researchers, and others. The use of scientific data and evidence allows them to manage the complexity of migration more effectively, aiming for sustainable inclusive policies that benefit both migrants and host communities in the EU and globally. The data is presented in user-friendly interactive charts and visualizations.
