The Commission Approves the EU4Health Work Program for 2024, Worth €752.4 Million, to Strengthen the European Health Union

5/12/2023

The European Commission today approved the EU4Health work program for 2024, which aims to implement the main priorities of EU health policy within the framework of the European Health Union. The budget of €752.4 million will enhance the implementation of the program and provide funding to address significant health issues across the EU. The goal is to improve the EU’s crisis preparedness through the Health Emergency Preparedness and Response Authority, as well as the ability to address challenges such as those related to Russia’s aggressive war against Ukraine. It will also ensure the development of key digital initiatives, such as the European Health Data Space, whose main purpose is the proper use of digital health data to improve patient healthcare across the EU.
The 2024 budget will also contribute to strengthening the EU’s resilience to cross-border health threats, as well as implementing the EU’s pharmaceutical strategy and the European plan to combat cancer. Additionally, it will support emerging policy initiatives focusing particularly on mental health, global health, and pharmaceutical developments.
To enhance the important role of civil society organizations in implementing EU health policies, the EU4Health program will continue to provide operational grants of €9 million in 2024, while also publishing a call for framework partnership agreements for the 2025-2026 period.
