The Commission has awarded the most promising European innovations that emerged from EU-funded research and innovation projects. The German company NVision Imaging Technologies received the 2022 “Innovation Radar” award for “metabolic magnetic resonance imaging at the cellular level,” an innovation that demonstrates how quantum technology can significantly improve the capabilities of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) for evaluating the effectiveness of medical treatments in early stages. Awards were given in three other categories. The “Purpose-Driven and Green” sustainable innovation award was given to the Romanian company Svelte for a project that brings innovation to building design and construction. The winner in the “Disruptive Health” category for health projects was the Belgian company Innovation Sprint, which developed a digital clinical solution that outperforms traditional therapies. The award in the “Kickstarter” category, which highlights innovations with great potential that are in the early stages of development but have a convincing market entry strategy, was given to the Polytechnic University of Madrid from Spain for thermovoltaic accumulator technology, which offers a cost-effective solution for storing large amounts of energy for long periods. At yesterday’s annual Innovation Radar event, 12 finalists from across Europe presented their plans for the commercial exploitation of their EU-funded innovations to a panel of investors. The “Innovation Radar” is the Commission’s initiative to highlight innovations emerging from EU-funded research and innovation projects under Horizon 2020 and Horizon Europe, the world’s largest public research programs, as well as the LIFE program.
