The Commission has signed an Administrative Agreement under the Copernicus program regarding cooperation with Argentina’s National Space Activities Commission (CONAE).
The aim of the Agreement is the mutual exchange of Earth observation satellite data based on the principle of reciprocity. This Agreement will offer mutual benefits. On one hand, Argentina’s National Space Activities Commission intends to provide end-users in Argentina with easier and simplified access to Copernicus data. On the other hand, Copernicus services provide near real-time data to users worldwide through satellite and in-situ systems, such as ground-based sensors. With access to corresponding systems from Argentina, Copernicus services will be better and more accurate.
Following the signing of the Agreement, a coordination group will be established with members from both sides, responsible for implementing the Agreement. Copernicus is the EU’s Earth observation program. This Agreement is part of Copernicus’ global outreach strategy, which aims to promote the use of Copernicus data and services to address societal challenges worldwide through Agreements with partner countries. To date, the Commission has signed similar agreements with the administrations of the United States, Canada, Japan, Australia, Chile, Colombia, Brazil, Panama, India, the African Union, Serbia, Ukraine, and the Philippines.
