The Council Fails to Reach an Agreement on Redefining Britain’s Contribution Percentage to the Budget

19/3/1984

During the first European Council of the year (Brussels, March 19-20), there was a failure to reach an agreement regarding the redefinition of Britain’s contribution percentage to the Community budget. Any progress made was conditional on achieving an overall agreement. However, one of the main points of this Council was the confirmation of the compromise for significant reforms in the Common Agricultural Policy. During the sessions in Brussels, there were protests by young farmers.
