22/7/1972

In Brussels, the EEC and Portugal proceed to sign an agreement which provides for the abolition of tariffs on industrial goods and a number of agricultural products. An agreement for closer economic relations was also signed between the EEC and Sweden, as well as with Austria, mainly on issues of gradual removal of barriers regarding their trade relations. Similar trade agreements were signed in parallel with Iceland and Switzerland, and additional protocols with Liechtenstein. Austria, on the same day, signed an agreement with the ECSC which particularly concerns the removal of tariffs on coal and steel products. The above countries were member states of EFTA.
