Valdis Dombrovskis, Executive Vice-President of the European Commission, responsible for an Economy that Works for People, traveled to Riga to participate in the discussion “State and money” of the conference “Money in Latvia: from the restoration of independence to the modern era”.
Playing a significant role as Prime Minister of Latvia in introducing the euro, Valdis Dombrovskis recalled the economic and political context of the euro’s introduction and also noted that the introduction of the currency served as a positive message of financial and economic stability in Latvia. Moreover, it contributed to economic growth with lower interest rates, better opportunities for attracting investments and increasing exports, reduced currency conversion costs, and greater resilience to economic shocks.
