The European Climate Law Turns Climate Neutrality into a Legal Obligation

24/6/2021

MEPs approve the European climate law, under which the EU commits to zeroing greenhouse gas emissions by 2050.
The law sets a new, more ambitious target to reduce emissions by at least 55% by 2030, compared to 1990 levels, instead of 40%. The Commission is required to propose an interim target for 2040 at a later stage.
